WHAT ARE DENTAL IMPLANTS?

Dental implants are tiny titanium posts surgically inserted into the jaw bone to act as tooth root substitutes. They are directly placed into the jaw bone. The bone integrates with the posts, creating a strong foundation for dental restorations. Another small post is then attached to the  dental implant, which protrudes through the gums.

These posts provide stable anchors for dental restorations, which are made just for you. Dental implants also help preserve facial structure by preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

DENTAL IMPLANTS PROCEDURE

Dental implants are placed within your jaw bone. For the first two to four months following surgery, the dental implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually integrate with the jaw bone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At
the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.

After the dental implant has integrated to the jaw bone, the second phase begins. Your doctor will uncover the dental implants and attach an abutment, which will act as an anchor for the dental restoration.
