WHY WOULD I NEED A BONE GRAFT?

Over time, the jaw bone with missing teeth may become resorbed, creating a poor foundation for dental implants. With the bone graft or bone grafting procedure, we can grow the bone for implants. This procedure also restores functionality and aesthetic appearance.

Below are the different types of bone grafts:

BONE GRAFT SOCKET PRESERVATION:

The tooth socket is the part of the jaw bone that holds a tooth in place. Once a tooth is extracted, the bone in the tooth socket quickly begins to resorb. Donor bone is placed as a bone graft in the socket to help preserve the bone and gum tissue for implant placement.

BONE GRAFT SINUS LIFT PROCEDURE:

When the roots of the upper teeth extend up into the sinus area behind your cheeks and these teeth are removed, there is often not enough bone to support and hold dental implants in place. If this is the case, we will perform a sinus lift or sinus bone graft. During this procedure, we lift the sinus membrane and insert a bone graft into the sinus floor. After several months of healing, the grafted bone melds with your natural jaw bone, which allows the implants to be placed in the
back part of the upper jaw.

BONE GRAFT RIDGE EXPANSION:

A bone graft ridge expansion is performed to restore lost jaw bone or if the jaw ridge is too thin to place dental implants. We will use mechanical means to expand the bony ridge of the jaw,
and bone graft material is placed and allowed to mature for a few months before placing the
implant.
